IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO THE MEMBERSHIP

To The Members of local 588

First, let me take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Happy New Year 2008.

As we make plans for this year and look at the challenges this year brings, I am compelled to appeal to the members of local 588 for help in updating our Bylaws. We need to take a serious look at these bylaws and determine what needs to change to guide us as we experience the effect of decreasing numbers in our membership and in the event there are further reductions. With this in mind and the fact that we have not been too successful in getting a quorum at our membership meetings, we are asking for your help.

The majority of our bylaws were written when we had over 3000 members and thought we would never get to this level of membership. We need to take a close look at our bylaws and determine what we need to adjust to fit our membership at the level it is today and in the future should we continue to drop in numbers. We are going to get input from our Bylaws and Election committees and our Executive Board to determine what changes need to be made. Our next membership meeting is Sunday February 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., why not make a commitment to attend this meeting and have a voice in how we conduct the business of our local.

Thank you for your help and I hope to see you at the meeting on, February 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.

In Solidarity,

Bill Jackson

President UAW Local 588
